🧶 Key points in thread Image
2. Across the 40 markets covered by #DNR20, 47% are very or extremely interested in regional/local news. Interest is usually higher in countries with strong regional identities and federal systems 🇧🇷🇪🇸🇩🇪 and lower in more centralised systems 🇫🇷🇬🇧.

Highest and lowest % in chart Image
3. Older audiences tend to care more about local/regional news.

Younger audience segments aren't interested that much in most countries. In 🇳🇴 only 23% among the 18-24s are interested vs. three times as many among the +55s.

There's a similar gap in 🇩🇪🇬🇧 Image
4. Looking into news consumption, regional/local newspapers are still most used (44%) across all 40 markets.

🚨 However, competition online is intense: local groups on social media and personal communications are already as popular as local TV and more popular than radio Image
5. Local newspapers were already struggling before the pandemic and many may disappear. Would the audience miss them if they were no longer there?

🤔It depends on the country. 54% in Germany vs. only 25% in the UK say they would miss them a lot according to our findings Image
6. Learn more about our research in Episode 2 of our #DNR20 podcast series, featuring @fedecherubini in conversation with @annisch.
