The U.S. Cultural Revolution is tyrannical even when the Maoists aren't breaking the law to vandalize statues. Fringe lunatics complain about a statue or exhibit, which gets removed in response to their complaints without the rest of the country getting a say, or a vote.
Where do the people who care about American history and culture go to cast our votes in favor of keeping Teddy Roosevelt, or whoever the Woke Taliban decides to cancel next? When will we be asked what WE find offensive, or what forms of expression we think should be protected?
Much of what the Woke Taliban is destroying is public property that has long been maintained with taxpayer funding and donations. Why isn't our investment being protected? Shouldn't city officials be held financially liable for allowing our property to be destroyed?
This whole rotten business has basically been a whiny conversation between a tiny minority of extremists and Democrat politicians, with the rest of America ignored and forgotten. There is nothing remotely democratic or republican about it. Our voices are not heard at all.
Our entire system derives its legitimacy from the consent of the governed. Well, I do not consent to the destruction of public monuments that belong to all of the American people. The rest of you had better speak up loud and clear if you want your consent to mean anything. /end
