I love this phrase "digitally arable land," maybe there's a use for it online as well. Digital platforms are land and soil, either suffocating or nourishing roots around and between content @andy_matuschak @Conaw @anthilemoon @houshuang #digitalgardens
Digitally Arable Land is a digital platform that leans towards being •permissionless, •decentralized, and •emergent.

This 'soil' allows for •open •organic •networked/collaborative •exponential/limitless/nonlinear •user-generated growth. @Sys_innovation
Different types of content flourish in different types and amendments of soil (eg. flowers/leaves vs images/text, comments/essays, bots/users, etc), so match the platform features to the content you aim to nurture
You're going to get weeds. They compete with crops, and host diseases. Design your garden to eliminate conditions that encourage weed growth. Remove them early and often, or seed bigger crops to blot out the sunlight
Who owns the land? Is your garden of thoughts/data on rented soil on a commercial plot? Or is it a raised community garden in your community?

Do you use hand tools or big batch tools? Handpicked or machine sorted? Who applies pesticides?
Personal notes are compost. Break ideas down into smaller chunks/steps to digest into reusable blocks and recombine into "black gold". Amend/append compost to the garden when it's ready, or choose to mulch in place instead
Walled Gardens vs Digital Gardens
It could be a social action and protest in the same way as Community Gardens - guerrilla gardening ted.com/talks/ron_finl…
These gardening metaphors seem more apt for digital content than I originally expected :) @anthilemoon @vgr @TomLisankie @MamanLunettes @RobertHaisfield
Help, I've fallen into a trope and can't get up!
