Good morning and thank you for having me. Such a privilege to be asked to mentor on this handle and I hope that when I am done we will have taught each other a few things. I will start with a brief about myself. My focus is going to be on entrepreneurship the Zimbabwean way...
I did my tertiary education at Solusi University were I graduated with a degree in Business Management. I first knew I wanted to be in business when I was introduced to Commerce in form 3. My late mother always insisted by that time you should know what career path will be. Image
At Solusi I got a campus job in first year working in the computer lab doing evening shift until 11pm. This job taught me time management skills having to deal with classes & a part time job. Each Friday when I got paid I used to buy the @FingazLive & The Independent.
After 🎓 I started working at the family business @longden_steel. It was a fairly small company, at the time Zisco Steel was still in operation but our business was growing during the hyperflation years. I started as a sales intern & had to work my way up (my father demanded it) Image
During the GNU period (2009-2014) I was asked to serve on the Ministry of Industry advisory board under the then Minister Mike Bimha. Our task force was to look at the reduction of imports & how we can increase capacity utilization. I was one of the younger members of the board Image
During the same period I started to export commodities, specifically metals into SA. This gave me a deeper understanding of reading legislation that governs the space you trade in. Entrepreneurs do not focus on this area as much. I will touch on it during the day.
In 2017 I started a firm with a university mate and good friend of mine in S.A. We started doing Joburg Road Agency sub-contract jobs of replacing traffic lights in Gauteng. It was a taxing business, resources intense & you micromanage most of the things. A true startup! Image
In 2020, I was privileged to be asked by @Semalho to be a Board Trustee for this amazing project. I will also detail the journey it has been so far helping to run a trust and the impact of the work done is on peoples lives. This is the end of my rather (brief 😅) thread! Image
