“What do you do with the mad that you feel?”

Mr. Rogers had a unique wholesomeness in America that shaped generations.

Today, his messages show us how to deal with fear and help us move forward.

[A *very wholesome* thread. 👇]

1/
It’s hard to feel normal these days...

2/
Still, hope comes when we see the kindness people have shown, the virtual connections people have forged, the care they’ve offered to workers on the front lines.

As Rogers was fond of saying, “look to the helpers.”

3/
But what if you’re one of the helpers whose job is to prevent other catastrophes?

How do you think about the fear and anger surrounding a nuclear disaster when everyone is already scared and angry?

4/
You adapt.

For nuclear researchers, this could mean shying away from traditional talk about apocalypses and disaster.

No one wants to be scared even more right now.

5/
As Rogers sang: “It’s great to be able to stop, when you’ve planned a thing that’s wrong.”

6/
While things continue to evolve, we may not be able to go back to the old “normal.”

But that’s okay.

“Know that there’s something deep inside / That helps us become what we can.”

7/
Our structures and systems are rigid, and they can fail when confronted with the instability and fluidity of emotions, culture, and relationships during a crisis.

So we transform...

8/
We take the time to stop and imagine a better society, a way through the dark tunnel to a brighter future.

And we help each other get there.

Just like Mr. Rogers would have.
