Will Humble, former chief of public health in Arizona was just on with @maddow. He emphasized that states are about to implement "urge care," and the public should beware.

Surge care involves using algorithms to determine triage in hospitals because preventive measures have failed. That means that depending on your age and other factors you may be denied hospital admission and sent home or if you're in the hospital...

you may be denied ICU care even if you need it. That means that people will die for lack of capacity.

Consider now that much of the need for surge capacity across the south and southwest is being driven by people who refused to wear masks or practice social distancing.

Now many of those same people are flooding hospitals and causing others who have been doing all of the right things or in fact require critical care for non-covid-19 related issues to potentially be denied lifesaving treatment. Much of this was avoidable.

So why are we here?

The lack of planning, leadership and the commensurate incompetence in establishing any significant preventive measures at the federal level and in many red states have brought us here. This is not a one side is as bad as the other scenario. This was pure republican politics.

Now that it has resulted in catastrophic failure, people who followed that incompetent leadership and have refused to comply with even minimal self-responsibility and protective measures are now endangering the entire rest of the population as they pour into medical facilities.

Everyone will pay a terrible price for their selfishness and bad choices.

So yes, I am irate with Trump, the GOP and irresponsible Trump followers. Their behavior and decisions are shining examples of deplorability.

And it is resulting in precisely the "them against us" attitudes and reactions that Trump and the republicans have wanted all along, even if it kills us, or if it's their own people as they sacrifice.
