One of the first major tests for a church planter is letting people leave for reasons less than “they have to.” (Think job transfer, school, etc.)

You’ll be tempted to take it personal and become frustrated that they aren’t willing to sacrifice and persevere in the vision alongside you. It feels like a betrayal. But it doesn’t have to.

The next test, though, is sending people who should go elsewhere for their own good. Whether to a church closer to home, more suited to their stage of life, gifts or needs, or simply because they’ve stopped progressing with you...

there will probably come a time when you need to lovingly encourage someone to take a step away that leads to their own growth but at a minimum leaves less people in the seats of your congregation.

Both of these tests are used by God to keep you focused on the right thing: making and multiplying disciples, not gathering attendees to a weekly event.
