Bottom line is this whole thing was a setup from the beginning. Alt-Right propaganda machine "Gateway Pundit" organized this event and arrived with local Proud Boys.
After the event was over, is when the agitators started trouble to start a narrative. They don't mention the weapon was brought by them.
