You don’t need scientists to tell you this, you need labor journalists. “Environment” in this case should also include the fact that meat packets are generally paid a pittance and receive no health insurance nor paid days off.
I used to cover immigration issues. Undocumented workers, whose abuses are almost never written about and who the meat industry preys upon with near abandon, are often wary to seek medical help even when in crisis, because they’re afraid they’ll get caught and jailed or deported.

And it’s not just undocumented folks getting fucked over either. That’s just one way people are getting fucked over. It’s just the only way I have relatively in-depth knowledge about. That’s why we need more labor reporters!
