So I've been thinking about @SebastianEPayne's account of @michaelgove's Ditchley lecture last night. Gove, you'll recall, was described as a Maoist by David Cameron.
On the surface, Gove seems to be making some decent points - get more (especially scientific) expertise into the civil service (quite a change of tune) and stand up for the 'forgotten man' (not sure of he cares about forgotten women) who voted to leave in 2016. 
He grandiosely compares this project to FDR's New Deal. But Cameron was right - it's pure Maoism. He and Cummings (I suspect Johnson is just along for the ride) want to tear everything down and get us to Year Zero.
Year Zeroism always fails. It killed millions in Cambodia and is starving millions in Venezuela. It's most successful incarnation was the French Revolution, which led to a decade of misery and aftershocks for the best part of a century afterwards.
It is also the complete antithesis of Toryism, which has always been about preserving traditions and slow evolution. This is why, as I explained in a previous thread, traditional Tories were driven out and the Tory Party no longer exists.
And it is going to fail tragically, because termoil in the civil service will likely coincide with further spikes in the pandemic (most likely in winter) and a no-deal Brexit that no one will be able to properly prepare for. We are in for a decade of deliberately caused pain.
The forgotten man and the even more forgotten woman are in for a betrayal and shafting the likes of which have never been equalled. And to control their protests, the Maosts will have to do what Maoists always do - cheat and suppress democracy.
If I am right, the pressure for a united Ireland and an Independent Scotland can only get stronger. Authoritarian responses from Westminster aimed at preventing the splintering of the United Kingdom will only have the opposite effect to that intended.
I am genuinely frightened and have been increasingly thinking about an escape route for myself and my family. I say with all sincerity that I really hope that I am wrong and that all those people who voted for this chaos will be laughing at me next year.
