Story:

I used to work for the federal government in Canada, and so did my mom, but different departments. One single time, I got to work with her, and do an interdepartmental project. I WAS SO EXCITED.

1/?
I worked at the Department of Justice (DOJ), and we wanted to take part of the tax refund from parents who owed a significant amount of child support, and then send it to the owed parent. My mom worked at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

2/?
She was the project manager at CRA in charge of sending us just enough info for us to get the job done.

I, of course, was the nerd designing and coding it all from the DOJ end.

I cannot tell you how exciting it was to go to a meeting and my MOM was there!

3/?
Also, seeing her in action was so cool. She was the big boss, if you know what I mean. I've always admired her, but getting to see her AT WORK was a step above my previous adoration.

We also cleaned up. She's super fast, and so am I, and we finished ahead of schedule.

4/?
I was leaving the department for a different job, so I had a short window to complete it (I hate leaving work unfinished when I leave a job). SO SATISFYING.

5/?
Years later a friend called me. Her ex had triggered the "You owe me child support" rule and it had taken part of her refund for him! I felt so proud it still worked!

(She was unemployed, that's why she wasn't paying, she's not a jerk.)

6/?
Anyway, I just wanted to share a story about a time that I got to work with someone who I admired and how it worked out.

Summary: IT WAS AWESOME.
