This is factually incorrect, from Mesley’s own account of events.

She was disciplined for using the N-word in a meeting after having been told her previous use of the word, then citing a book, had hurt colleagues.
The indomitable @nolore predicted Mesley’s admission of the incident involving Vallières’ book would “distract and confuse the issue, aided by Quebec distinct society analysts who will fully obscure what she has been reprimanded for.”

Spot on so far.
Many people are pointing out Durocher often has a passing relationship with facts, but she’s far from alone putting her energy into the Vallières aspect of the controversy.
It’s often confusing to me that the same people who argue Quebec has a distinct relationship to words like the French N-word and a separate history of racism can’t fathom that in English Canada the N-word has achieved thermonuclear status, no matter context.
Nobody is asking for a book burning. They’re asking you to not drop the N-word in a group meeting in order to display your knowledge as an old Quebec hand or for shock value.
I’ve hesitated to talk about this because it’s not my lane and I have a lot of respect for Mesley, who I don’t know personally but in whose footsteps I’ve followed to some extent. There aren’t that many of us in the Quebec corro club.
Seeing Nora’s analysis play out reminds me I have my own role to play here.
I wish to leave the last word to a person directly affected by this. Please try not to be an ass with her, I’m sure she’s had plenty.
