Most netizens find it ridiculous, much like other bans on real ppl's hair colors & tattoos. But similar practices have been normalized over the past few yrs. What's more concerning is the reporting mechanism that bans the show cuz one letter in the name of "positive energy" 3/
It's worth noting that Hunan is a huge target. Hunan Provincial TV is China's most successful entertainment TV maker that can even take the strait-laced CCTV. It's often caught between fangirls/fanboys who have weaponized the reporting mechanism in the past decade 4/
Do NOT conflate this with "cancel culture". The reporting has usually little actual substance of social justice but only a one-sided pandering to the Chinese government agenda. 5/
