@Taxtwitter I’m putting together a standard penalty abantement letter for IRS and States. To Whom It May Concern, I would like to start this letter with whatever I say it is with all due respect, and I mean with all due respect (it’s in the Geneva Convention). The above 1/X
referenced taxpayer was not able to meet their tax payment deadline because they were quarantined from {insert date} until {insert date (future date past 7/15)} because of COVID-19/20. They could not get in touch with their preparer (me, the one writing this stupid letter) 2/X
because I was dealing with the Cares Act, PpP, ERTC, Familrs First, and helping to ensure they “maybe” remained in business. During this time the above referenced taxpayer along with their preparer also had to deal with homeschooling their children, loneliness, the inability 3/X
to socialize with ANYONE, couldn’t attend church, a loved ones funeral, or basically anything most of us were used to doing. So instead we all went crazy, started drinking way more than we should have, eating way more than we should have and stopped caring about anything. 4/X
For that we sincerely apologize and would furthermore like to tell you to take the penalties and interest you have on this notice and stick them straight the F up ur A$$. We apologize for the inconvenience all of this has caused you. We understand you were also closed for 5/X
months and came back to 11 million pieces of unopened mail that you sent automated notices to taxpayers during your “quarantine”. Hopefully once you get through being shut down for 3 months you will read this letter in August 2022 and be sympathetic to our plight and offer 6/X
forgiveness. Please remember I started this letter with “all due respect” and if you have ever heard of Ricky Bobby you know I’m being sincere. If you don’t remove the penalties and interest I plan to appeal this along with 10 million other tax preparers and will flood the 7/X
already understaffed appeals system for years on end. I implore you to please assist so you can go back to some normalcy like the rest of us. Sincerely, EVERY ACCOUNTANT IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. 8/8
