Rock Cut Temples of Masrur
The Masrur Temples complex contains about 15 Shikhar temples.
Rock-cut Architecture is a depiction of persistence as construction is being done by sculpting and cutting entire hills, unlike other artifacts.
Masrur temples are located on the hilltop at a height of about 2,500 ft from the sea level, & posses on of its unique feature of being rock-cut temple of nagara style as nagara style temple are mostly built as masonry construction.
Having cluster of 15 rocks temples carved out of a single rock, built around a central shrine, Masrur popularly known as the Himalayan Pyramid.
In front of these temples is a rectangular pond which remains water-filled all through the year and reflects a magnificent image of these temples.
The central shrine is the temple of Lord Ram, Lord Lakshman and Goddess Sita. The temple is jeweled with detailed carvings of figures and floral patterns.
It has always been a riddle for historians and archaeologists to date exact period of construction of this temples, as nor any inscriptional mention of the patronage ever found on the temple.....
....itself neither it has been found in any historical account but locals here believe it to be constructed by Pandavas during their exile.
It's unfortunate that this temple is not widely known among peoples even being a remarkable specimen of architecture in the country. Although the construction & period of the temple complex is a puzzle but it glorified our history of architectural magnificence.
