Due to ongoing violence and public safety issues in the East Precinct/Cal Anderson Park area. Mayor Jenny Durkan has issued an executive order to vacate the area. Seattle police will be in the area this morning enforcing the Mayor’s order. spdblotter.seattle.gov/2020/07/01/may…
Since demonstrations at the East Precinct area began on June 8th, two teenagers have been killed and three people have been seriously wounded in late-night shootings. Police have also documented robberies, assaults, and other violent crimes.
Because suspects in recent shootings may still be in the area, and because numerous people in the area are in possession of firearms, Seattle Police officers involved in this morning’s response will be equipped with additional protective gear.
Commanders have issued a dispersal order in accordance with the Mayor’s emergency order. All protestors are being asked to leave the immediate area within eight minutes. Safe exit is to the South and West.
Commanders have repeated the order for protestors to leave the area surrounding the East Precinct. Safe exit remains to the south.
Armed group currently approaching officers at 12th Avenue. Police are giving continuous orders to disperse will continue providing safe exit from the area to the south.
After issuing multiple dispersal orders to clear the area, officers have begun making arrests at 12th Ave/Pine Street.
Chief Best's statement on enforcement of Mayor Durkan's executive order:
Police on scene continue to issue dispersal orders. Officers have made approximately 10 arrests at this time. Anyone seeking to exit the area can still do so to the south, toward Pike Street.
Individuals are upending Honey Buckets along 12th Avenue.
Anyone who remains in the area, or returns to the area, is subject to arrest.
Three additional arrests at 12/Pike.
Officers enforcing today's order are wearing a higher-level of protective gear. Police are utilizing this equipment because individuals associated w/the CHOP are known to be armed and dangerous/may be associated with shootings, homicides, robberies, assaults &other violent crimes

Officers continue to give dispersal orders and are moving remaining groups north through Cal Anderson Park.

Officers continue to give dispersal orders and are checking Cal Anderson restrooms. Police will be clearing north end of the park soon. Thank you to the individuals affiliated with the CHOP who have assisted officers in encouraging people to safely leave the area.
Officers are investigating several vehicles circling the area of today’s operation. Police have observed individuals in the vehicles with firearms/armor. The vehicles also appear to be operating without visible license plates.
Officers calling for @SeattleFire for a woman apparently going into labor on the east side of Cal Anderson Park.
It appears individuals are setting off fireworks near PIne/Broadway.

As of 7:45 AM, officers have made 23 arrests in the #CHOP zone for failure to disperse, obstruction, resisting arrest, and assault. One of the arrestees, a 29-year-old man, was in possession of a large metal pipe and kitchen knife when he was taken into custody.
City workers have also recovered improvised spike strips—designed to puncture vehicle tires—in the area of the CHOP.
As of 9:25 AM, officers have made a total of 31 arrests for failure to disperse, obstruction, assault, and unlawful weapon possession. Police continue to provide perimeter security for city crews offering services and performing environmental cleanup.

Officers have provided numerous dispersal orders this morning and continue to ask groups and individuals to leave the area. Police are providing safe exit points, and will continue to make arrests of individuals who have refused to comply with dispersal orders.
