Lemme sew a short thread on my days as a young graduate banker, and an episode that happened to me. Peradventure someone may learn a thing or two from my experience.
When I was still a carless bachelor, I met this babe & fell crazily in love with her. I had just gotten a banking job in another city, away from home, but close to my best friend from University days, who was already running the uncle's business & had a car attached to his desk.
I'll close for work, my friend comes around after closing his, and we take off, first to my much talked about girl's house, where we will hang out, drinking in a neighborhood shop and later ending up in my crib. Life was great.
This became a near daily routine. My girl even had to introduce her friend to my best friend, and he had a couple of flings with her but they never really got along.
Well, I noticed that after their fling, my friend started being a bit reluctant visiting my girl's place, as we used to. Knowing he just wasn't cozy with the friend, I had to put in greater effort to get him there. Remember, he had the car and I didn't. I needed him.
Then, after a while, I noticed that my girl wasn't all that chummy with me anymore. She started giving reasons for not visiting and I what we usually did with ease, became a tug of war to accomplish.
My relationship subsequently became strained. Me & my girlfriend now hardly saw each other. It was always one excuse for another and I made up my mind to move on. It was a very difficult decision but my friend encouraged me. According to him, 'there're many fishes in the river'.
One boring Sunday at home, I decided to take a trip to my friend's place. I called a cab and took off. On getting to his house, I heard an altercation, a shouting match between him and a certain female. He was shouting on top of his voice that he was tired of everything.
I never knew him to be that quarrelsome & never knew he had a subsisting affair. Curiosity got the better of me, & I rushed up the stairs to his front door, pushing the handle, luckily it wasn't locked. There I saw him, naked, in a fit of rage with the lady in the adjoining room.
When he saw me, he froze. The girl, not knowing someone had come in, rushed in nude to the sitting room, crying, clinging to him and begging him. She was too hysterical to even notice me.
It was my girlfriend.
I just turned back & quietly left the house. Weeks later, I ran into the owner of the beer parlor we used to hangout in. He was inquiring why I stopped coming along. He said that my best friend used to return to the shop each night after dropping me, to pick the girl & go home.
He wondered what manner of man would do that to his best friend. He said he was tempted to tell me, but didn't want to be the cause of my quarrel with him. I thanked him and told him I've since forgiven him.
The gentleman remains my friend to this day, decades later. We're still close, but I no longer let my guards down with him. I truly forgave him, and we've never discussed that incident, ever again.

End.
