The public has a right to see Secretary Mnuchin’s and senior officials' calendars and communications, including with Jared Kushner and external groups, related to the Covid-19 stimulus to learn how outside entities and private interests influenced it.
On April 20, we filed 4 FOIA requests seeking these records. On April 23, Treasury acknowledged receipt of 3 of our requests but we haven’t heard from them since. We received no word about our FOIA for communications with Jared Kushner.
Recent news make these documents especially important. Last week, news broke that the Trump administration issued “blanket approval” to allow some federal officials, members of Congress & their families to receive PPP loans without following ethics rules.
Earlier this month, watchdogs warned Congress about the lack of oversight.
Also earlier this month, news broke that at least 4 members of Congress have benefited from small-business coronavirus loans.
