The case for Black American Descendants of Slavery (ADOS) to receive reparations from the US government stems from more than chattel slavery. It's the justice claim that ADOS should be uplifted to an equitable class in this country & be protected from ever losing that status.
It's also shielding ADOS from ever again dealing with the affects of structural racism. Examples follow. Over 250 years of forced free labor alone is worth reparations. But hat's not all. In slavery, ADOS were bred like animals & tortured or killed if they were caught escaping.
After slavery, ADOS were left to starve, forced into servitude sharecropping and domestic work. Jim Crow laws commenced to protect whites in theft, murder, and wrongful imprisonment of ADOS. Not to mention unequal segregation in jobs, education, social life.
Tulsa is just ONE of the ADOS towns were they managed to create successful operation of group economics and they were ALL destroyed by whites. ADOS who managed to get some money or farms had them stolen through criminal government policies.
Redlining is one thing but blockbusting must be associated with that. ADOS were terrorized when they even thought of moving to white neighborhoods, if the whites didn't move away taking the value and opportunities for neighborhood development with them.
Restrictive covenants ensured home ownership in certain neighborhoods would always remain white. This robbed ADOS of true integration into main society and the foundation of wealth building through owning homes in neighborhoods where cities invest the most.
Into 1970s & 1980s... Government infiltrated poor ADOS neighborhoods with drugs and mass incarceration. City planning destroyed structure of ADOS communities with racist infrastructure development. Eg. highway systems which displaced ADOS families. The 1990s included 3 strikes.
In workforces ADOS are discriminated against by racist polices created by racist company leadership. Enter immigration (back in 1965) (after Civil Rights of 1964) which also serves to undercut ADOS. Immigrants get grants, protections, and other benefits that ADOS never received.
ADOS wealth is 10x less than whites despite being foundational citizens to America's status as the global powerhouse it is. Oh, let's remember why the world is protesting right now. Police brutality against Black Americans. All that & more is the case for Black ADOS reparations.
