If you want an idea of how maddening things are, I live in a small college town that's already been designated a "rural hotspot" where numbers are doubling and we're planning on bringing roughly 20K students in from all over the country but not requiring anyone to wear masks.
In my classes I can't require anyone to wear a mask. I've been given absolutely no guidance whatsoever as to how to handle a situation where a student refuses to wear a mask or what to do if the students get upset by someone refusing to wear a mask.
There is just...nothing.

Again. I want to teach. I want to be back in the classroom with my students. I want things the way they were. I'm a huge college sports fan and want them back.
This isn't working. The pandemic is getting worse and to pretend otherwise at this point is just delusional and cruel.

Update: my county’s coronavirus cases skyrocketed by 530% last month. We’re planning on bringing 20,000 students in from around the country with no requirement whatsoever for masks.
