(THREAD) The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) proudly stands in solidarity with the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Great Sioux Nation) & demands that the United States government uphold its legal obligation under the 1868 Ft. Laramie Treaty and return the sacred Ȟe Sápa (Black Hills) to them.
M4BL also recognizes and fully supports tribal sovereignty and the right of all Indigenous Peoples to assert and exercise their sovereignty as recognized under international law.
In this unprecedented time, the collective consciousness of the nation is rapidly shifting and has led our society to begin addressing both the historical atrocities and the contemporary harms Black and Indigenous peoples suffer because of ongoing subjugation and oppression.
Let us remember that the prosperity and wealth of this nation was derived from the blood of slave labor on stolen land from indigenous people.

Let this 4th of July be a moment to remember and reflect on the REAL American history.
The paradox of American democracy — Mount Rushmore was carved into the mountain known as the Six Grandfathers mountain in unceded Indian territory and the site of their creation, which the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ still claim ownership to under the 1868 Ft. Laramie Treaty with the U.S.
Today’s social conditions are a direct result of the combined injustices & the ongoing effects perpetuated by colonizing powers under the Doctrine of Discovery, Manifest Destiny, the Middle Passage, and American Exceptionalism against Black and Indigenous Peoples and their land.
Our people’s history is deeply rooted in the colonization of this land and our liberation is inherently connected to each other's struggles to correct historical wrongs so that future generations can live with dignity and be free from all forms of oppression and injustice.
