The people screaming about protecting history actually have no idea what real history is but are obsessed with mythological, weaponized misinformation that gives them power and political dominance.
That is the horrifying truth. None of this is actually about history. It’s about a reality where inequality exists and needs rectifying and a mythical reality where America is perfect and white supremacy remains undisturbed.
Trump makes this clear. He knows absolutely nothing about history but is obsessively and violently protecting a mythology that made him rich and powerful.

This is the truth. It’s a societal battle over reality with power hanging in the balance.

For those who haven't kept track, America is just drowning in weaponized conspiracy theories, including the ridiculous Qanon narrative that is patently absurd but is metastasizing into a terrorist movement that has already inspired violence.

We can regard Qanon as absurd, and it is, but we can't turn our back on it because it is a fascistic movement and is growing in scope and danger.

We have to examine these bizarre conspiracy theories to understand the dangers we have to navigate.

The only reason why the country isn't closing down and lives aren't being saved is because the wealthy and powerful have no desire to address economic inequality or open the door to any discussion that might change our economic system.
Everyone knows the real answer is to shut the country down and deal with this pandemic.

The problem is that closing down would mean sustained and real economic change and aid.

People are dying so that the excessively wealthy can continue to profit. That's it. That's all.
And, like always, the wealthy and powerful are using all their old tactics, misinformation, paranoia, conspiracy theories that real problems are lies being told for political advantage, in order to tamp down actual, necessary discussion.

It's the same cycle. Every time.

The Fourth of July is the perfect time to talk about statues, the absolute madness and hypocrisy of MAGA and Trumpism, and how American history has been weaponized into mythological propaganda.

We need to start with Mount Rushmore, which is just a terrible monument that stands, in its existence, as a supposed symbol of American presidential greatness.

But let's talk about why it's such a terrible representation of history and why it's a symbol of ignorance.

Mount Rushmore itself is just a static memorial, four heads, four representations of "great" presidents.

They're immortal because they're immortal. No context, no explanation, just four immortalized gods we should all aspire and worship without question.
