My department sent an e-mail inquiring which classes would go online for the winter semester (which due to Covid now starts in November).

The reason: students who may not be able to travel to Germany from where they are at the moment, and need some semblance of security to plan.
On the one hand, I fully support the department in doing this. It's smart to plan ahead, and especially to think of the logistical and financial burdens students have to bear. Everything that makes it easier for them to navigate this is a good thing.
But on the other hand, part of the reason is that the university's own dorms have not changed cancellation policies, and are putting the onus on students to make a prediction—whether or not they will be able to attend live classes—that the university itself hasn't made yet.
One part of the university is trying to proactively solve a problem caused by another. Four months in, this does not sound like a coordinated strategy.
So yes, if you're a student at JGU (or doing an international exchange), you'll be able to take my classes online this fall/winter.

I expect we'll have a lot to discuss in the one on the history of capitalism.
