Much more than a simple slide makeover—in the latest #SWDcommunity exercise, I implore you to use provided context & data to practice creating an action-inspiring story. Share your solution to see my approach! community.storytellingwithdata.com/exercises/lets…
STEP 1: craft your Big Idea for the provided scenario—a single sentence that conveys what is at stake for your audience. You may find it helpful to work through the Big Idea worksheet (we use it religiously in our workshops), downloadable here: community.storytellingwithdata.com/exercises/the-…
STEP 2: write a short takeaway for each graph. What is the main thing you want your audience to know? Put it into words!
STEP 3: get sticky! Set the data aside and plan the path for your presentation. What content will you include? Edit & arrange components along the narrative arc. Identify the tension you'll highlight to get your audience's attention & motivate them to act.
STEP 4: download the data and modify the existing graphs or create new ones. For example, here's my remake of one of the graphs. Originals here: drive.google.com/open?id=1B8sah…
STEP 5: create your presentation! Share it, plus your commentary from the other exercise steps as your solution in #SWDcommunity. After you do so, you'll be able to see how I approached each step, as well as my final slides. community.storytellingwithdata.com/exercises/lets…
