How many of us know Krishna had sons and grandsons ? Have we ever seen Krishna along with his sons and grandsons in any temple ?
Read this complete thread to know about it...
Brahmanda Purana, compiled by Vyasa says that there was a king named Sumathy in whose dream Mahavishnu appeared. The king requested Him to give dharshan in the form of Parthasarathy(Arjuna's Charioteer)rendering Gita. So, Mahavishnu directed him to go to Brindharanya to do thapas.
Meanwhile, Athreya Maharishi prayed to his Guru Vyasa to show him a place where he could do thapas peacefully. Vyasa asked him to go to Brindharanya(the tulsi forest) and gave him a Vigraha of Krishna with Panchajanya in right hand and left hand pointing towards HIS Feet.
As soon as Athreya, along with the Vigraha, reached Brindharanya, he was welcomed by Sumathy who was stunned to see Krishna, in Sarathy form, rendering the meaning of Gita, walking towards him. Soon both worshiped Krishna and did pradhista to that Vigraha there.
Here, the deity is known as Venkatakrishnan/Geetacharyan. He holds only counch in his hand as he vowed not to hold weapons in the Mahabarata war. Here Krishna is with only two hands as he is in human form and has mustache of a charioteer.
His left hand pointing towards His Feet signifies the Charama Sloka :
In Garbhagriha, Geetacharyan occupies the central position, Rukmini is on His right, Satyaki(another brother) is on left, Balarama is next to Rukmini on right, Prathyumna(son) and Anirudha(grandson) are next to satyaki on left. A family begets harmony by praying here.
The Uthsava Murthy, Sri Parthasarathy, is seen with face full of scars as he took Bhishma's arrows on his face protecting Arjuna. His smile is so inspiring and teaches that external beauty perishes but not the internal.
Today, this Brindharanyam is known as Thiruvallikeni/ Triplicane located at the heart of Chennai city facing the Marina Beach. It is believed that the temple has a history of 5000 years.
Do visit this great temple of Geetacharyan(the Gita teacher), atleast once in your lifetime.
