So in this thread I will try to sum up what things are now like on the estates. The good first. For the first time yesterday afternoon I got the impression that the relief effort was getting to where it needed to be, with some exceptions. Food delivery, which was haphazard and ..
inadequate on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, has been improving rapidly since Tuesday. There were still gaps and problems - for example food could not be delivered while testing was taking place in a building and this caused delay. But the fear of hunger, which haunted people
..in those first awful hours and caused great tensions with community members desperate to fill the gaps and deliver to friends and family, was dissipated.
It was a massive effort. Trolleys and pallets being wheeled constantly back and forth and everyone discovering just how small and inadequate those tiny lifts are - two per building - when you are trying to get lots of goods in to lots of people.
Added to this the need for infection control, and a system of how to get the food to flats once it was in the building that was still evolving even yesterday morning...Tweeting this now. Another thread follows.
