Woody Allen continues to make films. Scarlett Johansson is still paid millions to act. Laurence Fox's last TV series was released 2 months ago. Jenna Marbles' YouTube channel remains. Jimmy Kimmel is still paid $15m a year to present.

"Cancel culture" is becoming meaningless.
All too often, "cancel culture" becomes a means for very rich and very powerful people to pretend they are victims when people respond to very controversial things they have used their huge public platform to say.
I'm also keeping a tally of the commentators launching passionate public tirades against "cancel culture" who have tried to menace my job because I support trans rights or speak out about endemic media racism.

Oh dear oh dear!
To those saying: "one day the mob will come for you!"

Well, actually, they already have: I was attacked by a far right extremist because I'm a gay socialist.

Is that cancel culture, or is the real problem people criticising celebrities on twitter? theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/j…
All the people currently tweeting that I deserved to be beaten up by a far right extremist with a house stuffed full of Nazi and Combat 18 memorabilia are the same people complaining that the left are trying to cancel different opinions.

No big deal, just Israel’s Finance Minister casually tweeting out in support of the “complete destruction” of Gaza.

Just the latest addition to countless examples of genocidal intent and incitement by Israeli leaders.

Yet the media focuses more scrutiny on student placards.
Image
Here, again, is an example of what is the greatest scandal of journalism of our time.

Genocidal statements by Israeli leaders should have framed all coverage of Israel’s onslaught.

But they’re generally barely reported on. That is deceit by omission.
I just did a Google search for the - just to be very clear! - Finance Minister of Israel demanding the "complete destruction of Gaza".

That is, genocide.

Not a single Western newspaper reports it. It only appears in @MiddleEastEye that I can find.

This is one of the most warped attacks I've ever had.

What he's done here is splice together me

a) condemning antisemitism

b) discussing Jewish peace activists I've interviewed / who've done actions

This guy works for a charity supposedly devoted to fighting antisemitism.
So if I hadn't repeatedly condemned antisemitism, @DannyMMorris wouldn't have been able to put this hit video together.

Instead he'd have said I never condemn antisemitism.

He's managed to turn someone repeatedly condemning antisemitism into something sinister.
@DannyMMorris Look, for example, how includes me using scare quotes when referring to "people in the media from certain Jewish quarters".

This was me condemning a quote from former Labour candidate Azhar Ali, because it was antisemitic.

The Cass review claims that boys play with trucks and girls play with dolls partly because of "prenatal and postnatal hormonal influence".

I will definitely take a review which offers that kind of claim seriously, if I ever start taking crack.
So they've done a review which de facto raises adulthood to 25, when in fact trans people of all ages are stuck for years and years on waiting lists for healthcare.

really great stuff here

As a former gay kid, the idea that gay kids get less validation than trans kids is probably one of the most deranged claims I've ever read.

It's about as far from the lived experience of the vast majority of LGBTQ people as it's possible to be

Israel has carried out the worst slaughter of journalists in history.

They've also banned from journalists from entering Gaza.

Why? To cover up their crimes.

And the truth is worse than you think 👇

Image
There's now an estimated 20,000 Palestinians buried under the rubble.

They're not included in the official death toll, which is around 33,4872.

That would bring the total to over 53,000.

This death toll is an underestimate, too.

There are Palestinians - individuals, or in groups - being killed with no one to officially report them.

There's those dying avoidably - think cancer, or heart issues - because the medical system has been destroyed.

Well, this is a extremely interesting - and infuriating - case in point.

In his latest article in The Times newspaper, Matthew Syed has taken two quotes from my latest Guardian column, published last week. Image
How do I know this?

1) The first appearance of Giora Eiland's quote (written on 7th October) in the Western media was my column.

2) I missed the "the" from Gallant's "restraints" quote, and Syed replicated my error. In the UK media, it's only been quoted one other time - by me Image
This isn't an attack on Matthew Syed for journalistic laziness, in pilfering my work for quotes rather than doing his own research.

It's that he - rightly! - offers these quotes as devastating evidence that the current catastrophe was inevitable.

The famine and slaughter in Gaza was completely inevitable from the start.

It was promised by Israel leaders and officials from day one.

There is no excuses for not knowing what would happen.

New column 👇

Gaza represents one of the biggest scandals in the history of Western journalism.

Rarely has a state been so open in advance about its intent to commit extreme crimes.

Yet media outlets failed to frame their coverage around these open, unashamed confessions. Image
Why didn't the Western media frame their coverage around Israel's Defence Minister at the very start promising

- to starve Gaza and deprive it of all life's essentials

- to "eliminate everything" in Gaza

- to lift "all restraints" and "all restrictions" on Israeli troops?
