This thread is going to be a collection of all my #globaloncology papers, primarily for my own reference to bookmark for quick access but also, just in case, it is helpful for any colleague with an interest in global oncology. 1/
This was my first publication ever. A correspondence to @TheLancetOncol in 2014 about cancer care and research in Nepal with @Poudyalbishesh : thelancet.com/journals/lanon…
This is probably one of the most important papers we’ve ever published. This paper in British Journal of Hematology highlights the story of how Bone Marrow Transplant services started in Nepal under @Poudyalbishesh ‘s initiative. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…
This correspondence written with @KAZ99081 tries to explore nuances of the study from India about the futility of surgery in patients with advanced breast cancer. thelancet.com/journals/lanon…
I love this paper with @Poudyalbishesh and @DamianoRondell1 . This is a good example of the “jugaad” culture in medicine- frugal innovation of mixing lipids + plain amphotericin when lipsoomal amphotericin is cost-prohibitive. tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.310… cc @BldCancerDoc @barttels2
This is one such article that I actually feel quite proud of having written. My first single author paper but I had the huge opportunity to receive the mentorship of Dr. Len Saltz for this piece. Many thanks to JCO GO @ASCO_pubs for that opportunity. ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/JG…
In this review, we explore the cheaper options available to prevent chemo induced nausea and vomiting for low resource settings. ascopubs.org/doi/full/10.12… @ASCO_pubs
This was a provocative paper but seeing LMICs spend their limited resources on unproven expensive screening modalities compelled me to write this w/ @KAZ99081 : link.springer.com/article/10.100… Image
Another example of jugaad led by @Poudyalbishesh . The title says it all. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111… Image
This one was published in Journal of Nepal Medical Association. Yes, we do have a Pubmed indexed medical journal in Nepal :) jnma.com.np/jnma/index.php… Again led by @Poudyalbishesh Image
This one was a letter to the FDA about the need to individualize the dose of drugs based on ethnic differences. Speaking on behalf of Japanese patients here :) clincancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/23/19/…
This piece explores the issues surrounding the inaffordability of avastin for advanced cervical cancer in LMICs like Nepal. ascopubs.org/doi/full/10.12… Image
This is another paper that I’m particularly proud of. We explore the economic issues with new cancer drugs here. My first opportunity to work with the inspirational mentor @SullivanProf tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10… Image
Yes, cancer drugs are cheaper in LMICs. But that doesn’t mean that they’re affordable. oncotarget.com/article/21976/…
This paper in @ecancer was when I first came up with the concept of “Avoiding Wisely”. Avoiding low-value oncology interventions is important for all countries but more so for LMICs. ecancer.org/en/journal/art…
And this paper in @ecancer with colleagues from @Anticancerfund cautions the oncology world re rejection bias against drug repurposing. ecancer.org/en/journal/edi… @Simple_Trials @AnticancerOrgUK
This is probably The most important paper in #globaloncology I’ve ever written. thelancet.com/journals/lanon… Image
In this pilot survey of financial toxicity led by @KAZ99081 , we find that COST tool could be used to measure financial toxicity of cancer treatment in Japanese patients as well. ecancer.org/en/journal/art…
A year later, we publish in @ASCO_pubs the results of the survey of FT in Japanese cancer patients using this Japanese translation of COST tool and find a substantial percent of patients experience FT despite universal health insurance. ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/JG…
This perspective piece in @TheLancetOncol didn’t earn me many friends but this was a question that needed asking. thelancet.com/journals/lanon… Image
This was a huge effort from the team @Anticancerfund trying to catalogue the evidence for every repurposable drugs for cancer. ecancer.org/en/journal/art…
This is as relevant today as it was when published. What #globaloncology needs is More Funding and Mutual Learning. ascopubs.org/doi/full/10.12… Image
Is a suboptimal approach to cancer screening better than no screening at all? @ramsedhom and I try to discuss this in reference to breast cancer screening in LMICs in this piece @JournalofEthics : journalofethics.ama-assn.org/article/when-s… Image
It was a huge honor to be a part of this exercise on phased implementation of breast cancer screening led by @OphiraG : acsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…
And finally, this paper with @Simple_Trials et al. in @NatureCancer explores the challenges and opportunities for cancer clinical trials in LMICs. nature.com/articles/s4301… Image
