Per @WallachLegal, here’s the copy of Zion’s drivers license that was purportedly used to authenticate his signature on a letter confirming receipt of an impermissible $400K loan. Zion’s team argues it’s fake and should be thrown out.

In 1997 & 1998, Michael Jordan was not just the highest paid player in the NBA, he earned more than most teams’ entire rosters.

As the greatest of all time, he deserved it - but it was exposing a flaw in the CBA.

For the 1996-97 season, the salary cap for each team was set at $24.3M. Note, teams were allowed to exceed the cap to re-sign their own players without penalty.

Jordan signed a 1 yr / $30.1M deal, shattering the $18.7M mark set by Patrick Ewing the year before for the NY Knicks. Image
Jordan’s deal pointed to greener pastures for athletes across the professional sports landscape. Owners took notice that he had clearly reset the market.

Q: How are they forced to go to the team that drafts them?

A 1st Rd Pick once claimed the NFL Draft unfairly prevented him from negotiating a higher salary with other teams. Free agency was more fair, he argued.

THREAD: The time a Federal Judge determined the Draft was illegal.
In 1968, the Redskins drafted James "Yazoo" Smith with the 12th pick. Smith, an All-American CB at Oregon, signed with the Skins for $50K. As a rookie, he suffered a career-ending neck injury. Frustrated that he didn't earn more in his brief playing window, he sued for $4.2M.
The NFL and Redskins were named as defendants. He argued the Draft violated the Sherman Antitrust Act since it prevented teams from having to bid for his services - like Free Agency entailed. Being forced to go to one team felt like an unreasonable restraint on negotiating power.
