Songs have such an influence on all of us - whether Hindi cinema or regional cinema. A tweet from a few days ago set me thinking about the songs that have left a deep impression on me from a Hindu perspective.
Here are a few...

Right off the bat, Deva Sri Ganesha from Agneepath. The rousing beats, the crescendo.. this song just does something. Your heart starts thumping. Even if you are not a Maharashtrian, when you listen to it, the Marathi manoos in you wakes up!😀🙏😊💕👌
This shortened version of Aigiri Nandini from the Telugu movie Saptapadi was the first time I realized what power Sanskrit could have on one + that "traditional" music is not boring, it grabs you. Commands attention.
+ helps that the movie was 👌

I haven't watched Bahubali. Yes, yes shame on me. 🙈 I am also ashamed to say that this was the first time I truly got introduced to Shiva Tandav. This song is just filled with love & devotion for Mahakaal. How can one stay untouched.🙏😢💕

Another gem from the Telugu movie Saptapadi. This time the entire Durga Suktam. This is how I learnt it. If you wish, you can too. 😊

Even though I cannot stand JA, this song from Swades just gets me. The dance is sweet & simple. There's an innocence to it.
And those immortal lines: dekh taj ke paap Ravan, Ram tere mann me hai... mann se Ravan Jo nikale Ram uske mann mei nai!🙏

I'll stop here. There are many more songs of course, but these are what I remembered as soon as I started typing. Don't you think we need more of these gems?
Share your favorites please. 😊🙏😀
THE END.
