Watched #RebuildingParadise, about the Paradise fires. It’s so upsetting to see how giant monopolies can cut corners and end up killing people, and how much can be lost so quickly.
Heartening to see how communities can rebuild.
Also, and the film touches on this, the indigenous people of California knew better how to set controlled fires to prevent major fires. The people who moved here for the gold rush and timber rush did not, and THEY were the ones who set California up for disaster now.
But it’s also scary to have controlled burns done in your backyard when you’ve got PTSD from a giant hellish fire. So firefighters and scientists struggle with that a little bit, too. People are, naturally, going to be afraid of fire now.
