Quick thoughts on the #namechange.

1) the current name is racist, and here’s how you *know* why: you would never throw that word around in a Native community. 1/4
(Note: I ignore shitpost replies.)
2) many people don’t like change, but we get over it. People lost their shit when DC banned smoking in bars. Within weeks of enactment, complaints pretty much stopped. Now it’s ancient history. I expect similar with the #namechange. 2/4
(Note: I ignore shitpost replies.)
3) Finally, if you quit over this, it’s your loss. It will be more fun and less drama without you. People don’t miss grumps who can’t let a lost argument go. #namechange #sorrynotsorry 3/4
(Note: I ignore shitpost replies.)
4) Personally, after growing up a passionate Skins fan, I left footbal behind a couple years ago and don’t regret it at all. In the grand scheme, it really is just a game. 4/4 #namechange
(Note: I ignore shitpost replies.)

As today went on, I got inordinately angry at the pro forma well-wishes and prayers for Trump, and incensed at calls to be civil and take the high road. After dinner, I figured out why I got as pissed as I did. 1/5
We have had no National day of mourning, no moment of holding space to honor our individual and collective grief. This absence is particularly hard because many of us have made the painful sacrificial choice to miss funerals. Our spiritual needs are unmet. 2/5
Trump getting sick is the closest thing we’ve had to a shared national experience. Trump - who let the pandemic run wild in the first place, never gave us a moment of silence, never shared our sacrifice, never stopped being a bigot and a bully, never tried to lead us out. 3/5

If any Nats players kneel during the anthem tomorrow, we’ll see a lot of disingenuous reactions on here. Let’s unpack a couple. #OpeningDay 1/4
Reaction: “give the virtue signaling a rest!”
Reality: standing for the anthem is “virtue signaling” too. The real gripe is about losing unchallenged control of which virtues are allowed to be expressed on the field. 2/4
Reaction: “keep politics out of sports!”
Reality: Flyovers, the anthem, God Bless America (🤮), the constant messaging that war keeps us safe, police appreciation night...all political. The real gripe is with the political views being expressed, not the presence of politics. 3/4
