About a couple dozen people here for a planned protest and march against police brutality at the north end of Laurelhurst Park. Not much activity so far, but Portland Resistance Assistance and ACLU legal observers are here. People slowly trickling in. #koin6news
Free pizza for participants
A wider view of the park. There were a few dozen people just relaxing on the grass about an hour before any tables were set up, so not sure how many of the people broadly are part of the protest. But there’s definitely been more people coming in who look to be participants.
About 150-200 people here and it sounds like a march is about to begin. 47th and Burnside, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, is being named as the destination.
A march is underway now, with the destination being Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office at 47th and Burnside.
We’re moving north on NE 41st now.
Moving east on Burnside now.
People chanting “what’s his name? Quanice Hayes. Who killed him? PPB.”
East Burnside near 47th, the entire blvd is filled with protesters.
PPB already here in riot gear. It is the co-location of PPB East Precinct and Multnomah County Sheriff.
Police, protesters face to face at PPB East Precinct/Multco Sheriffs office.
Protesters continue chanting.
Voices raised here at the east precinct.
Live stream here: koin.com/news/protests/…
“I don’t see no riot here, take off your riot gear.”
Protesters still here outside PPB East Precinct, in the street on Burnside St.
About 300 people here.
Police shining bright lights from their cars.
Demonstrators not backing down.
The chanting continues.
Portland police bureau Warns those who enter Portland police Bureau property subject to arrest or crowd control munitions. They are asking peaceful protesters to leave.
The police skirmish line and vehicles have backed up a bit.
Still tense here, protesters continue to chant and police still in a line, tho backed up a bit
Black Lives Matter is being projected onto the building.
Police giving warning to protesters
This is the police vehicle that was giving warnings to protesters to not enter the premises and it was located on North East 47th and Couch. Looks like perhaps an LRAD on top of the car.
Here is a burnt American flag on the ground on Burnside St. outside PPB East Precinct.
Chanting continues outside of PPB East Precinct.
Lasers shining at security camera.
People encroaching in and shining a laser near an apparent officer posted at the roof.
Someone wobbling the sign.
A few people have yelled “let’s go f—- with the feds” and it looks like some may be leaving. Most are still here but I will update if that changes.
Correction: this is PPB Southeast Precinct, not East Precinct. It is located at E Burnside and 47th.
People have moved in closer now. Many in the larger group have left, but there’s still a pretty big group, about 100-125 or so. I again hear the warning about trespassers being subject to arrest or crowd control munitions from police.
People continue to chant.
You can see the makeshift shields from demonstrators, some are reflective, some are just umbrellas.
Police just rushed the crowd in full riot gear, I got this image right before it happened. People ran away and they are asking people to disperse to the south and to the west. Event deemed unlawful assembly.
Police still lined up and many protesters still here.
Caught the second rush from police into the crowd.
Lots of police cars descending west down E Burnside, chaos in the streets and some attempted barricades. I am moving away from the area.
“Officers are disengaging. Do not follow them.”
People are moving back East now, toward precinct. Police: “this is still an unlawful assembly...”
People still gathered outside the precinct. The picnic tables I saw dragged upon the street earlier have been removed.
Police were persisting with their dispersal of people gathered outside the precinct, rushing the crowds and driving vehicles west down Burnside until people were forced out. This was at about 12:45 am and I'm posting a multi-part video here. I called it a night after that. (1/6)
In this video you can see that while we had been told to go west by police situated near Burnside and 47th, more police were lined up at the next block west of the precinct (2/6).
(3/6) Mostly just more of the group running away. They were going pretty quick and there was a lot of police cars.
Not much to see at this part because we really had to move (4/6).
Here you can see people starting to use garbage and recycling to block the road against police (5/6).
In the end it was basically a sprint for 6 straight blocks, as police officers pushed people west, back to Laurelhurst Park where it began (6/6).
