The Tuber Called COCOYAM.

A Brief Thread.

Cocoyam is a common name for the various species of one tropical root crop & Vegetable crop. A part of the Arum family.

** Did you know - Some Cultures in Nigeria consume the stalk of certain Cocoyam specie?
Cocoyam is also called Edè by the Igbos. (Someone tell me what the Yorubas call it please).

This Tuber Crop comes in various types, ranging from the ones used as Soup thickening to the ones that can be boiled and eaten. (Just like Yam).
Benefits of Cocoyam?

Cocoyams are good sources of Potassium, Vitamin C and is also beneficial to overcoming rheumatoid arthritis.

( I am no expert in Nutrition, lol ... Mine is to encourage you to Farm, Embrace Agriculture).
Uses

- Soup Thickening
- Chief Ingredient in Making Achicha. (A Cherished Delicacy amongst the Igbos)
- Can be Eaten, just like Yam (goes well with red oil and Oil Bean)
- Can be further processed and Packaged in flour form.
Planting Cocoyam.

Want to Plant Cocoyam?

This Crop is predominantly cultivated in the eastern and western part of Nigeria.

Best planted on an Upland, a well drained fertile Soil.

Can also be planted along sides Maize and Yam Tuber.
Cocoyam Matures in about 8Months. It's best to Plant when the rains have become steady.

For Best Results, do plant them 1meter Apart.
