Some good news. The national interest exceptions to the 6/22 have just been broadened. travel.state.gov/content/travel… 1
Expansions for health care. Changes COVID language. Now okay if you "alleviate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic," or 2
If you conduct medical research in an area with a substantial public health benefit (such as cancer or communicable disease research). 3
Now ok if you're a health worker who alleviate secondary effects (e.g. not directly doing COVID work, but working in an area adversely impacted by the COVID pandemic). This SHOULD be broad enough to cover most doctors. We shall see... 4
For H-2Bs, exemption now if a US govt agency signs off because its defense-related or related to a federal contract. 5
J-1 au pairs traveling to provide care for a minor US citizen, permanent resident or nonimmigrant kid with "particular" needs (e.g. medical, special ed, sign language). Also, au pairs that prevent a person from becoming a public charge (not sure what that would cover) or 6
au pairs working for health care workers/medical researchers involved with COVID. 7
REALLY surprised they're still not taking care of military families with this broadening. Come on people. 8
Looks like some bilateral exchange programs now exempt. Not sure which would be covered. Will do some checking. 9
J-1 interns and trainees on US govt agency sponsored programs (those with a G-3 program number).
J-1 teachers in programs beginning with G-5 program numbers. Looks like this is for foreign language teachers. 11
" Those who will accompany or follow to join a principal applicant who is a spouse or parent and who is not subject to [the ban] (including those that have been granted a national interest exception)... 12
This exception can be extended to derivative applicants when the principal is currently in the United States or has a valid visa. 13
This is the official language for what @travelgov was posting earlier.
Some news for DVs. If you were issued a visa before 4/23, you are allowed in. Period. "No valid visas will be revoked under this proclamation." This should also mean visas should be reissued if they expired because of the lockdowns. Does not help people still waiting on visas. 14
