1. A popular story about Ravish Kumar among the right-wingers is about an instance where he asked the caste of someone. They routinely try to discredit him by using this story to brand him a "casteist" which is rather ridiculous in the normal world except in their echo chambers.
2. Similarly, a very insightful story about the caste coordinates of Pulwama’s slain jawans by @thecaravanindia infuriated the right-wingers to no end. They complained about how the piece is "dividing the army based on caste" and branded it "anti-national".
3. There are very many such examples over the time where the right-wingers try to shut down relevant conversations by asserting that it's wrong to bring caste into the conversation. In their bubble, caste isn't the problem, talking about it is.
4. When it comes to the liberals, the problem takes a slightly different form. They tend to detach themselves from caste by disowning their surnames and proclaiming that they don't "have caste". But unfortunately this doesn't often reflect in their choice of life-partners.
5. Such superficial approach to caste does little to solve the problem which is manifested as wealth & power inequality in the society. More importantly, it fuels the marginalisation of caste from the mainstream discourse and their kids grow up with no understanding of caste.
6. "Don't talk about it" is the most ridiculous "solution" prescribed to end the caste problem and it is fairly popular among the upper-caste conservatives and liberals alike. Not only is this narrative a fallacy, but it causes immense damage to the progressive discourse.
7. It's important that we affirm the necessity of discussing caste because it is the central reality of the society we live in. Not talking about it is quite obviously not the way to address the problems of discrimination and atrocities.
