WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF PROLONGED SCHOOL CAMPUS CLOSURES?

#EducationIsARight

[a thread]

The Duterte admin has neglected the right of young Filipinos to education amid the pandemic. This resulted in school campuses being closed for 4 months now.
Filipinos have already felt the adverse effects of school campus closures:

- millions of dropouts
- interrupted learning
- social isolation of the young
- children exposed to violence and exploitation
- pressure on parents to homeschool their kids
- parents might miss work to take care of kids
- stress on teachers and school personnel

Heartbreaking is the admission of DepEd that it already expected millions of students to drop out. What has the Duterte admin done to prevent this? Not much.
We must not wait for eternity or a miracle before campuses can be opened. Other countries have shown how schools can safely reopen as part of a comprehensive plan to address the pandemic.

We cannot allow gov't incompetence to have long-term effects on dev't of young Filipinos.
