if the economic situation and/or the external situation continues to deteriorate, expect the ruling party to resort to further domestic polarisation to consolidate and keep its support base. That‘s the all-purpose hammer that works for all jobs.
If you want to check out this hypothesis, ask any one who voted for BJP why he continues supporting the party despite the destruction of the economy; the utter mishandling of the Pandemic and the resulting loss of lives and livelihoods; the surrender to the Chinese; etc...
His/her reponse will hinge on a few things each of which is a clear communal dogwhistle - Ayodhya temple, triple talaq, Article 370, CAA-NRC, Gujarat pogrom.... In other words, as long as hate is kept at boiling point, the party will keep its support base whole.
No matter what happens to the economy, to their own & their family's health, to national security, to citizens' freedoms & rights, to the integrity of Constitutional institutions... The only expectation from the govt is that it would keep 'the others' in check and under the boot
