Of course it is Edward Feser who is heterodox and not DB Hart. Apparently he believes that eternal good and eternal evil have equal metaphysical weight and reality. Since he was not Zoroaster Jesus will have assumed everyone around him knew that.
And of course never going against your conscience is just good Thomism.
Just how does Feser account for the fall of Lucifer, given that the bodiless (for Aquinas) angel of light had neither senses nor imagination?
It’s also apparent that Fever cannot really have read the book since the misrepresentations of its arguments are so extreme. He’s also totally wrong on the crucial historical points where Hart is scholarly and careful. (One can be that and also be a master of invective.)
Feser. Though he does indeed suffer the sad effects of the Anglo-Saxon Protestant virus by supporting capitalism and capital punishment and no doubt other capital cruelties. But these are mistakes our death-governed finitude can engender, so he will escape damnation in the end.
Like his unbiblical, unpatristic and metaphysically incoherent view that the Kingdom of Heaven will not include animals. It will even include plants, it will even include dust. Eriugena is especially good on this.
That they do not I mean. (It was very early in the morning)
Why didn’t Jesus make this point clear? As if he were an Oxford philosophy Don!
