So this is interesting. % of student body which is international, Canadian universities and colleges, 1992-93 to 2018-19. (Statscan 'til 17-18, my sleuthing work for 18-19.) 
Why are those college numbers spiking so hard? The answer is Ontario. In 2018-19, over 70% of international college students were enrolled in Ontario (and over half the rest in BC). And Ontario colleges have been going coco for international students for several years.
Without international students, Canadian universities would have had effectively zero student growth in last seven years and Canadian colleges would have seen numbers decline by about 7%. Peak domestic enrolment was 2013-14.
Ok I didnt label that second graph but hope it is obvious: it is number of visa students in Ontario colleges. Here is the same data, but in percentages. Yes, really: Ontario colleges are now over 25% international students.
And that's just the system-wide average. Most individual institutions are above that (Humber and Algonquin bring the average down).
And yes, it is that time of year when I am updating The State of Postsecondary Education in Canada. Watch for a new edition Labour Day-ish.
Another interesting graph. The Ottawa River is a dividing line on international students, but it runs in opposite directions for universities and colleges. intl students as a % of total student body by region, 2018-19.
Your regular reminder that while the German apprenticeship system is really cool, it is mostly so because it does NOT simply focus on what we here in Canada call the "skilled trades". Quite the contrary.
