Where do we go from here? I've outlined my vision on re-imaging community safety, which you can read in full at the link below. (Thread - 1/9)

portland.gov/hardesty/news/…
In summary, my vision involves:
⚫ Reducing & limiting the size & scope of our
police force
⚫ Reinvesting those dollars in community
⚫ Creating alternatives to the police
⚫ Decriminalizing non-violent offenses
⚫ Demilitarizing officers
I want to be in charge of the Portland Police Bureau so I can enact this vision. I'll put my expertise & resume up against anyone on this issue. In the coming days, I will explain how I arrived at the conclusion that the best way to get there is by being directly in charge of PPB
The most immediate action item towards this vision I am asking for your support on is my ballot measure to create a completely new system of empowered, independent, community police oversight.
This bold proposal, created in partnership with community advocates and experts, will create a new national model for police accountability.
City Council will vote on referring this ballot measure to voters on Wednesday, July 29th at 3:30pm. Complete information on how to sign up to testify on this item will be released and shared on Friday.
I know my colleagues value community input and I encourage you to reach out and let them know your thoughts on creating a new system of police oversight, created by and for our community.
