“Several years ago, Jollett began writing Hollywood Park, the gripping and brutally honest memoir of his life. Published in the middle of the pandemic, it has gone on to become one of the summer’s most celebrated books and a New York Times best seller.”
“Mikel Jollett’s searching Hollywood Park charts the musician’s odyssey from early childhood in Synanon, a California cult, to backwoods poverty to Stanford. A Generation X This Boy’s Life. Hollywood Park is a triumph.”
“Mikel Jollett, front man for The Airborne Toxic Event, has written a memoir that is dangerous, immediate and lyrical from the jump. It can sound airy to say, ‘Music saved my life.’ In Mr. Jollett’s case, it seems also to be true.”
"Jollett has an innate sensitivity and eye for detail. You sense that any novel he’d write would be a good one, a Denis Johnson-esque tale rife with drifters and drugs. He recognizes literature as what the critic Kenneth Burke called equipment for living." washingtonpost.com/entertainment/…
"Jollett was accepted into the prestigious Yaddo artists’ retreat to work on a novel in 2005, but he launched the Airborne Toxic Event instead. He began Hollywood Park in 2015. The book is a moving, deeply introspective reckoning with his early trauma." datebook.sfchronicle.com/books/putting-…

It’s obvious why so many people on the left are silent about the conclusive NYT piece documenting the mass rape and sexual torture by Hamas:
Because it explodes their simple fantasy that Hamas are noble “resistance” fighters and not the terrorists monsters they truly are.
The entire point of their narrative is that Israel is bad (i.e. Jews = evil) and Palestinians are good (all women/children, no terrorists).
The messy truth is Netanyahu IS bad, and so is Hamas, and so are the people denying rape and so are those advocating carpet bombing.
The only solution is two peaceful states living side by side, though it’s impossible to see how that can happen with the far right in power in Israel and Gaza run by a terrorist death cult.
The sense that so many people who knew next to nothing about the Middle East before October 7th and recently learned ALOT of antisemitic talking points are merely repeating (and trying to enforce) a script with almost no understanding of the history or facts on the ground.
It’s particularly depressing bc it’s mostly coming from a generation who brought a focus on language, how it’s weaponized, how empathy must be at the forefront of how we speak.
So to see the, “Words are violence” crowd say, “Mass rape is not violence,” is SHOCKING and pathetic.
They are chanting chants written by terrorists who dismember children and vow to murder an entire religion of people.
When pressed, they say they’re not violent phrases and it’s like, “Did you just get here last week?”
And then you remember they DID just get here last week.
The Supreme Court ended affirmative action yesterday by saying you CAN’T discriminate by helping a minority group, then turned around today and said you CAN discriminate by hurting them.
The basic point is it has nothing to do with the law. The only question for them is, “How can we crate and enforce a system which only benefits the ruling class?”
Hey guys, I think we officially found the dumbest statement on the internet.
This guy is saying that if he can’t do shitty bigoted things to minority groups, that’s the same as slavery.
America, where the legal age to rent a car (25) is 7 YEARS OLDER than the legal age to buy a semi-automatic rifle which can shoot 45 exploding bullets per minute.
The logic, of course, is that renting a car requires maturity and forethought. A car can be very dangerous, after all and you wouldn't want it in the hands of an irresponsible and erratic 18 year old.
