Every unregulated matter has the potential to become catastrophic. The 2008 financial crisis which involved the failure of the securities sector of the system is a clear example. The lobbyists against proposed regulations by the SEC did the world a major disservice & didn't pay.
21st century Islamic Scholarship & Da'wah is highly unregulated as well. Everyone has his/her own vision and pleads sincerity. Fatwa authorities have no time to babysit everything said in the name of Islam & calling any misguidance out, even with good reason, is considered taboo.
As a result we have cases whereby a daa'i can correctly plead the 5th on answering a question given the nature of the listening audience but then go on to unashamedly ask another daa'i the same question, with the same audience, whilst aware of the problematic nature of the answer
Also, as a result of no regulation, do we find the uncalled for heavy handed harmful criticism of Du'aat phenomenon, and in retrospect, heavy handedness is dealing with those who raise valid concerns about certain da'wah based approaches & conclusions.
The sale of subprime loans over years with no regulation created a bubble that tricked people into thinking everything was well and then burst to create catastrophic ripples of disaster and failure. Foreclosures in America reached 6 million by 2010 and the rest is history.
My fear is that if Shariah bodies continue to fail to bring some form of regulation over what happens in the name of da'wah inside of its borders & online; the results will be catastrophic when the bubble bursts. People then will have a faith crisis! Not a house/financial one.
