R. mucilaginosa normal inhabitant of human oral cavity & respiratory tract. Infrequent pathogen, mostly in immunocompromised hosts (cancer, severe neutropenia, HIV, alcoholism, diabetes mellitus & chronic liver disease)
Risk factors for #Rothia injection drug use, cardiac valve disease, prosthetic devices. Infections: bacteremia, endovascular infection, CNS infection, ocular infection, B&J infection, pulmonary infection, biliary tract infection, SSTI
#Rothia generally susceptible to penicillin/ampicillin, cefotaxime, imipenem, rifampin & vancomycin. Frequently resistant to clindamycin, AG, tmp-smx, FQ.
