In November 2019, the shelter @pvastx Palm Valley, in Edinburg, Texas, posted a little black dog named Augustine. He was well less than a year old, and heartworm positive. People here shared him. No one wanted him. 1/

Palm Valley tried to get him adopted or rescued, featuring him in videos, but no luck. He stayed in this kill pound for nearly six months, surviving because he was sweet and smart. He carried his food bowl to the front of the cage, like Oliver Twist. 2/

This cute move helped a smart, sick little dog live. Still, Augustine was just another black dog in a high-kill pound. 3/
In April 2020, Brigitte Van Hool @bvanhool_van shared Augustine, or Agustine, and people began to pledge to save his life. Slowly, good folks here chipped in, a promise to help him be rescued. 4/

After two months in boarding in San Antonio for heartworm treatment — successful!— Augustine made the three-day voyage from Texas to Virginia with Logan, a dedicated Dallas-based transporter. Logan delivered him to Lucky’s Legacy....
...and DJ, the founder of Lucky’s Legacy, brought him to us yesterday afternoon. The care for this little black dog, so long neglected in a dangerous place, came because of social media and kind people on it. Augustine is smart, sweet, and good. He loves baths, walks, and love.
