Let's do a bit of armchair geology, ok?
I was on Google Earth looking for something, and then I saw this dark green line in the desert. I wonder what it is?
A closer look. Looks green, right? Surprising for something in the middle of the desert.
It's a cliff! A cliff that gets rain! There's desert, then ~15 km of rainforest, then desert again! Mind blown.
This is really cool. Almost 2000 metres at the top, goes down to sea level.
The round hill fell down the cliff????
At the bottom, limestone covering coloured and tilted sediments.
Here's a nice example of a window into the tilted sediments, below the limestone
And here is a tilted layer of something dark. Ancient lava flow? Chert? Ironstone?
Lava flow?
Oh wow, definitely a lava flow! Erupted on the limestones, then new wadis cut through the lava into the limestone again
That's a relatively new lava flow. Look how it fills up the still-existing canyons!
Small rhyolite domes?
This is amazing. No words.
Is this the ancient shore line? The flow ends there abruptly
They're holding hands!!!
