Imagine with me for a second: It is October 2021 & Republicans control Washington. 10 million Americans are dead from COVID-19, which continues to spread wildly ravaging our nation. The GOP mocks maskwearers & overturn state mask orders. Trump commits some troops to assist Russia

2/in conquering Ukraine, so US soldiers are forced to take up arms against former allies. WWIII breaks out & a coalition of former US allies team up to fight Russia's imperialism.

Kim Jong Un takes advantage of the chaos & US weakness to build a full nuclear arsenal.

3/Trump has purged US intelligence agencies of anyone who doesn't repeat his propaganda & retooled the entire press into a propaganda machine, so we aren't warned of threats to our nation & are told of great (nonexistent) US victories. Former US allies strike us on home soil.

4/Americans busily build bomb shelters out of whatever we can find (supplies are scarce due to the war, which Trump 'manages' only as well as the pandemic response) and none of us can get any information about when the next bomb might strike because Trump doesn't want to look bad

5/So bombs strike unpredictably in various cities, and the government propaganda stations all insist there was no bomb. So there is no emergency disaster response & people are left to fend for themselves. Hospitals become overfull and turn away the wounded.

6/ Everyone lives in fear and no one trusts the media, but no one dares say so, lest the DHS secret police show up and kidnap them, throw them into unmarked vans, and drive them off to concentration camps Trump modeled after the Uyghur camps idea he admired in China.

7/There is still Congress and the Supreme Court, but they hold power in name only, because Senate Republicans ceded all their power to totalitarian Trump & refused to stand up to him. He tramples the law & Constitution & sends his DHS goons after anyone who opposes or resists him

8/Schools are only allowed to teach what aligns with Trumpian propaganda, so if Trump says that if you inject disinfectant into your body you can cure COVID-19, that is what they will teach, or if Trump says hydroxycloroquine cures COVID-19, that is what med schools teach.

9/Everywhere you go, you see police in military gear stationed 'to keep order' on the streets. When they want extra cash, they invent crimes, become brutal, or refuse to let you pass until you pay them off. Due process is denied to dissidents they deem 'enemies of the state.'

10/Every moment you look back with painful regret about what you did on November 3. Although you voted against Trump (who stole the election), you voted for the Senate Republicans who enabled this nightmare by refusing to remove him from office after his second impeachment.

11/You might think this is not going to happen, that my imagination is too fertile. You might think: 'but a COVID-19 vaccine is coming! Those nations couldn't really fight against us & Russia! We wouldn't get bombed here!'

But you thought our current reality wouldn't happen, too
