On June 26, 1975, Indira Gandhi announced on the All India Radio and Proclaimed Emergency

Indira Gandhi locked up the entire opposition and brought in a series of amendments to prolong her rule
She brought in 38th amendment to ensure that no judicial review of the Emergency could take place
Next the 39th amendment which stated Office of PM cannot be questioned by SC

Thereafter the description of India in the preamble was changed from “sovereign, democratic republic’ to a ‘sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic.”
