/ This data came from @propublica which obtained it from the CCRB via FOIL. For decades, these records have been secret. In less than 20 minutes, NYC police and other unions are scheduled to be in court fighting the release of further records. More here:

/ In 2008, Michael Raso was accused of pointing his gun at a 22-year-old Black man during a stop in the North Bronx. The NYPD disciplined him with instructions. Since then, he’s got 7 more substantiated complaints + joined the NYPD’s protest control unit:
/ Black residents in BedStuy accused David Leonardi of unjustified stops, frisks, and strip searches. The civilian review board recommended he get serious penalties multiple times, but the most he lost was vacation days. He was also promoted:

/ In 2004, a Black barbershop owner said that he was driving home from work when Daniel Sbarra and another officer dragged him out of his vehicle, asking about guns + called him the n-word. He lost 2 vacation days + was later made a lieutenant:

/ Robert Henderson has had numerous substantiated complaints for stops + searches. He was made a lieutenant though he has been involved in numerous lawsuits costing the city over $278,000.
/ NYPD officers we spoke to argued that they are being pushed to get numbers (guns, drugs etc.) in communities that suffer from crime by any means necessary. They see what the brass rewards, and what it looks the other way on. Here’s NYPD whistleblower Pedro Serrano:
