I have three takeaways from @Uber's Domain-Oriented Microservices Architecture.

First, in a very real sense, they are reinventing/rediscovering the very same principle that guided @ericevans0's Domain-Driven Design

Second, it is interesting to see the evolution of Uber's development culture.
They note "They note "It’s not an exaggeration to say that Uber would not have been able to accomplish the scale and quality of execution that we maintain today without a microservice architecture."
However "we began to notice a set of issues associated with greatly increased system complexity. With a microservice architecture one trades a single monolithic code base for black boxes whose functionality can change at any time and easily cause unexpected behavior."
I would frame this as the precipitating cause that led them to DOMA: they had grown the company into a Big Ball of Microservices, and at some point they crossed a threshold where it just didn't scale.
Third: this is (again) a problem of architecture. You can go so far at having services bubble up from the primordial soup of Wonderful Goodness, but in the end, a mindful, intentional architecture that attends to systemic issues matters. Bigly so.
So, the lessons here are:

I use Lightroom to organize all my images (and copyright information). I use Scrivner to then write those chapters. Finally, all this flows into InDesign.

The past several years, I've been conducting some deep and extensive research for my documentary project, Computing: The Human Experience. I've studied almost 1,500 books, read over 10,000 articles and other references, and watched dozens of other documentaries.
When I began this journey, I started with the premise that the story of computing is the story of humanity.

Even more so now, I know that to be true: we are co-evolving, and irreversibly so.

And in many ways, we have just begun.
People have asked me "when will this be broadcast?"

And my answer is still "sometime before I die."

Some thoughts about contemporary approaches to deep learning.

I celebrate the amazing advances we have seen in recent years with DL. CleRly, this demonstrates that connectionist models of computation have enduring value.

However...
Virtually all of the more spectacular applications of DL are for what I call signal AI: the classification of patterns within static images, video streams, and data streams (the latter being voice in particular).
From an architectural point of view, this simply means to me that DL offers efficient mechanisms for that class of problems...but DL as we practice it today does not necessarily transfer to other sorts of problems.
